Obit: Clare Wayne Sterner

Clare Wayne Sterner, age 81, of Moscow, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Wilton Retirement Community.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  A private family graveside service will be held at the Durant Cemetery.  Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Clare was born on September 21, 1940, the son of Leslie and Wilma (Wright) Sterner in Iowa City.  Clare married Rita F. Coss on December 30, 1961, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilton.  Rita passed away on March 5, 2021.

Clare worked at Quality Foundry in Stockton, Iowa, for most of his life until they closed.  After he retired, Clare enjoyed attending tractor pulls, auctions, collecting cast iron, and spending time fishing on the Cedar River.  He loved his lavender 1960 Ford Starliner, but most of all he treasured spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Clare will be dearly missed by his five children, Tim (Marsha) Sterner of Durant, Peg (Mark) Weih of Moscow, Ben (Tanya) Sterner of Moscow, Patty (Robert) Cornell of Washington Island, Wisconsin, and Brett Sterner of Moscow; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Nicole) Weih, Dan (Audra) Sterner, Adam (Autum) Sterner, Ainslie Cornell, and Aislinn (Hector Aguilar) Cornell; five great grandchildren, Laiken Weih, Elizabeth "Ellie" Sterner, Ryker Weih, Kane Sterner, and Synova Aguilar; two brothers, Wilbur Sterner and David Sterner, both of Wilton; and one sister, Martha (Phil) Wiebel of Durant.

Clare was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Wilma Sterner; his loving wife, Rita; his two sisters, Linda Harold and Dawn Sterner.
