Christie M. Thoma, 68, of Durant died on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport following complications of a recent surgery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Durant Youth Baseball. Interment will be in the Durant Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.

Christie was born in Postville, Iowa on Feb. 12, 1953 to Keith and Chrystol (Miller) Thoma.

He graduated from Durant High School in 1971. Christie married Carol L. Bowman on Aug. 19, 1978 in Durant. She preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 2012.

He owned and operated Thoma’s Jack and Jill in West Liberty until retirement.

In early years, he enjoyed traveling, fishing and boating. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren play sports, and Miller Lite (not necessarily in that order).

Christie is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Scott (Kara) Thoma of West Branch and Liz (Sarah) Thoma of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Brady, Lola, Morgan, Jones and Reese Thoma; and brothers, Jeffrey (Bonnie Staggs) Thoma of Durant, Tom (Trudy) Hansen of Enoch, Utah and Ron (Kristy) Hansen of Durant; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents Keith Thoma and Chrystol Hansen; stepfather Oliver Hansen; brothers Michael Thoma and Mark Hansen.
