Meg Koenig receives REC scholarship

Eastern Iowa REC awarded the first “Bob Wiemerslage Memorial Scholarship” in memory of the late cooperative division manager of accounting. The scholarship is given to a student who plans to pursue a degree in accounting. Crystal Burke is this year’s recipient of the “Wiemerslage Scholarship.” Burke is the daughter of Dan and Karen Burke of DeWitt.

The cooperative also awards one year, $1,000 college scholarships to 15 area high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college or university and five one-year $1,000 college scholarships to area high school students who plan to attend a trade or technical school.

This year’s $1,000 college or university scholarship winners include: Hunter Holdgrafer, son of Brian and Keri Holdgrafer of Bryant; Karsen Kettwick, son of Wayne Kettwick of DeWitt; Kailey Clark, daughter of Bill and Ange Clark of Grand Mound; Kjirstin Osland, daughter of Darin and Salem Osland of Muscatine; Will Esmoil, son of Mark and Chari Esmoil of West Liberty; Caden Wendt, son of Dave and Sara Wendt of Mechanicsville; Anna Sturmer, daughter of Kurt and Jody Sturmer of Blue Grass; Zachary Wemhoff, son of Christopher and Jennifer Wemhoff of Davenport; Meg Koenig, daughter of Mike and Melissa Koenig of Durant; Maia DeGrazia, daughter of Jordan and Kristen DeGrazia of Iowa City; Levi Stultz, son of Tim and Dawn Stultz of Ainsworth; Madison Law, daughter of James and Jessica Madsen of Nichols; Isabelle Hase, daughter of Chad Taylor and Tiffany Hase of West Burlington; Taylor Howell, daughter of Tom and Tara Howell of Columbus Jct.; and Bryce Waters, son of Jared and Christina Waters of Ainsworth.

This year’s $1,000 trade or technical school scholarship winners include: Lane Krukow, son of Ryan and Larissa Krukow of Princeton; Karsyn Ruess, daughter of Monica Kopet of West Liberty; Brianna Stoll, daughter of Jason and Amy Stoll of Lost Nation; Makenna Pidgeon, daughter of John and Tammy Pidgeon of New London; and Johndree Harris, daughter of Doug Harris and Lori Harris of Morning Sun.

This is the 34th group of Eastern Iowa REC scholarship winners. The cooperative has awarded 378 scholarships since the program started in 1987. This means $334,500 in scholarship funds distributed to students representing 50 different communities.
