Joanne L. Hinkhouse, age 82, of Wilton, peacefully passed away on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, surrounded by love at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A funeral service to honor Joanne’s remarkable life was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the United Methodist Church of Wilton. Friends and family were invited to share memories during a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the church. Joanne was laid to rest at Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Born on June 19, 1942, Joanne was the cherished daughter of John and Frances (Anderson) Laucamp. She graduated with the Wilton High School Class of 1960, where she formed friendships and values that would shape her life. On Aug. 20, 1960, Joanne married the love of her life, Lysle Hinkhouse, at the United Methodist Church of Wilton, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned over six decades.
Joanne’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and creativity. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, raising three daughters with unwavering care and pride. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating treasured moments filled with laughter and love that will be cherished forever.
A woman of deep faith, Joanne was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Wilton. Her commitment to her church and community was evident in her active participation in organizations like the Order of Rainbow for Girls and the Purity Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, where she served as a past Matron. Joanne’s love for learning and fellowship also found expression in the Grace Noll Crowell Book Club, where she shared her passion for reading.
Joanne’s artistic spirit and creative talents were boundless. She found joy in painting and decorating, filling her home with warmth and beauty that reflected her heart. Her adventurous soul led her to explore the world, with Hawaii holding a special place in her heart and memory. Whether through her travels, her faith, or her time spent with loved ones, Joanne brought light and inspiration to all who knew her.
Joanne’s legacy lives on through those she loved most. She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, Lysle; her three daughters, Lisa (Marc) Simpson of West Liberty, Angela (Roger) Reed of Bradenton, Fla., and Dana (Troy) Hullinger of Davis City, Iowa; her 15 grandchildren and five great-grandsons; and her brother, Robert Laucamp of Minnesota.
Joanne was preceded in death by her loving parents, John and Frances; her sister, Barbara Hansen; and her sister-in-law, Diane Laucamp.
Joanne’s life was defined by her love for family, her faith, her creativity, and her generosity of spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, beauty, and compassion that will live on in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
