Verna Henning of Walcott will celebrate her 95th birthday on Feb. 17.
Verna Sothmann was born Feb. 17, 1925 in Walcott. She married Ernest Henning on Aug. 12, 1944, in Davenport. He died in 1995.
She graduated from Central High School and worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and was a rural schoolteacher. After her marriage, she became a farmer’s wife. For the past 58 years, she has been an Avon representative. She worked the election polls before retiring after 45 years. She had also helped out at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant.
Her children are Verlynn (Dick) Moroney, South Vienna, Ohio; Lyndon “Ernie” Henning (Ruth Sueverkruebbe), Davenport, and Renae (Michael) Baca, Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
