On Sunday, Aug. 15, Boy Scout Troop 153 of Durant celebrated five of its Scouts (right) receiving their Eagle Scout rank: Cameron Hoon, Terry Esbaum, Braden Wagner, Luke Abels and Tony Krebs. The Eagle Rank is the highest level a Boy Scout can receive. Only 5 percent of all Scouts achieve it. In addition to earning the 13 Eagle required merit badges, earning at least 21 merit badges in total, ranking their way up through the troop, they also are required to manage and execute a community service project. Each of their projects included: Terry Esbaum — Restored Bennett School preschool outdoor playground, including reinforcing the sandbox structure, providing a canopy for shade, and creating an art wall and a music wall; Cameron Hoon — Cleaned up Bennett Park, including collecting milkweed and planting acorns; Braden Wagner — Replaced mulch around Durant City Hall/Library with rock and re-did the landscaping; Luke Abels — Installed Little Free Library and Pantry in Pythian Sisters Park in Durant. Also cleaned up fire pit area and stained the benches in Feldhahn Park in Durant; Tony Krebs — Replaced all of the tree markers at Feldhahn Park in Durant.
