A fatal accident occurred in Cedar County Oct. 27, involving two semis on Interstate 80. According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, at 7:10 a.m. one semi rear-ended another in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near the 277 mile marker.
A 2005 Kenworth semi driven by Reynold Madara, 38, of Woodward, Oklahoma had re-entered the roadway after securing a tarp on the load, and was getting back up to speed in the right lane. The semi was struck in the rear by a 2022 Volvo semi driven by Jan Bisek, 52, of Lagrange Park, Illinois.
According to the report, both vehicles traveled off the roadway and entered the north ditch, where they came to rest. Bisek was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation by the state patrol, which was assisted by the Durant Fire Department, Walcott Fire Department and the Iowa DOT.
