Ember Days prayers at St. Paul’s in Durant

Posted

In honor of Ember Days, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church will rededicate its Prayer Tree. Ember Days is a custom among Christians to observe four sets of three days, roughly around the start of the four seasons.

The church sets aside these days to mark passage of the seasons through prayer and fasting. According to folklore, the weather conditions of the three days foretell the weather conditions for the next three months. The Ember Days are Sept. 15, 17 and 18.

St. Paul’s invite all to join them in prayer at their prayer tree on Sunday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m., located by the Parish Hall at the corner of Third Street and Sixth Avenue in Durant. There will be a variety of colored ribbons for people to write prayers on, then tie it to the tree. Please feel free to join.
