EICC to offer free laptop to full-time fall students

Posted

Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) is reaching out to help students enrolling for classes this fall by offering them their choice of a free class or laptop computer.

Students enrolling full time for the fall semester at EICC’s Clinton, Muscatine or Scott Community Colleges can choose between a free three-credit hour class or a Dell Inspiron laptop. Those enrolling on a part-time basis, between 6 and 11 credit hours, will receive 20 percent off their fall semester tuition.

“We know the last couple of months have been financially difficult for many people, including many of our students, and want to provide them with some support,” said Muscatine Community College President and EICC Vice Chancellor for Student Development Naomi DeWinter.

The concept of offering a free laptop to students rose from the experiences the college has had in moving its spring semester online after closing its buildings due to COVID-19. The college helped many students in obtaining the tech tools they needed to successfully complete their courses this semester.

“We’re working to be proactive for the future, providing students who are without computers the opportunity to obtain one,” DeWinter said. “At the same time, we want to help those who already have that equipment, and that is why we are providing all students the option of choosing the class or the computer.”

Students must enroll by June 15 to qualify. Students already enrolled are also eligible for the offer.
