The Durant Tree Board will be hosting a tree planting event for city parks on Saturday, Oct. 2. The Tree Board received $2,000 in grant funding from Trees Forever to replace trees in parks that had been taken out by the 2020 derecho and Emerald Ash Bore.
This is the first phase of a five-year plan to bring trees back to the community by way of parks and boulevards. If anyone would like to help, please call City Hall 563-785-4451.
The Tree Board and volunteers will meet at City Hall to team up. Each team will be assigned a park to plant, mulch and water three-to-four trees. There are already volunteers to prep the areas and dig the holes, but help is needed to plant the trees. Please consider helping to improve the community tree canopy.
