Durant leaf pickup set to begin Oct. 19

Posted

Durant Public Works employees will begin picking up leaves at the curb on Oct. 19 through Nov. 24. Please see schedule and map (pictured) for zones. Crews will pick up on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the zones.

• Leaves need to be to the curb by 7 a.m. Do not call City Hall or public works if you have leaves. The crews will get to your address during the week scheduled. If leaves are not picked up on the exact day due to weather conditions or volume of leaves, they will be picked up at a later time that week.

• Please rake leaves into a pile or windrow behind the curb line or the grass of the city right of way. Please do not rake into the street or gutter.

• No mulched leaves will be picked up. Do not mulch if you want to use the curbside pickup. The leaf machines are not made for mulched leaves, and will not suck them up.

• No sticks, brush, garden refuse, rocks or dirt, only leaves.

• Please make sure not to pile leaves around signs, mailboxes, or where cars are parked. There must be enough room for the truck and machine to align against the street curb or right of way in order to pick up the leaves.

Other options for leaf removal:

• The compost site is open every day from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. You may drop off your leaves, even mulched leaves, at the correct space in the compost site.

• You may buy your own lawn bags and put them out on garbage day until Nov. 30. You will need a $1 sticker for each bag that can be purchased at City Hall.

• You may burn on your own property in a container from Sept. 1 to Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Yard waste must be DRY to burn, no burning of green leaves or tree waste. Please keep in mind neighbors will not want the smoke drifting to their homes.

Every effort will be made to maintain the weekly schedules. As crews finish one zone, during the work day, and if time allows, they may travel into the next numerical zone. However, the scheduled zone is the priority of that week.
