Doris May Martin, 96, of Davenport, passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, at Genesis Health System- East. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 8, at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilton. Memorials may be made to Christ Family Church, Davenport. Dori was born on July 16, 1928, the daughter of Howard J. and Hallie (Gill) Lenker in Durant. She graduated from Wilton High School and married Ronald Martin on Oct. 25, 1947, in Wilton. Ron passed away Jan. 24, 2010.
Dori spent her years as a homemaker and brought joy to students and staff alike as she served lunch at Wood Junior High in Davenport. Her kindness and warm smile made a lasting impact on everyone she met. For over 32 years, Doris spent her winters at Superstition Lookout RV Resort in Apache Junction, Ariz., where she embraced every moment to its fullest, enjoying line dancing, quilting, and water aerobics. In 2023, her vibrant spirit was celebrated as she was crowned the Prom Queen of Superstition Lookout. She was a member of Christ Family Church in Davenport. She loved her yard, mowing her own grass until the age of 95. Dori also took great pride in being the oldest family member at the 109th Kaufmann family reunion and dedicated countless hours to family genealogy.
Dori will be lovingly remembered by her two children, Dennis Martin of Silverton, Colo., and Susan (Scott) Wearn of Winston-Salem, N.C.; five grandchildren: Jason Martin, Matt (Amanda) Martin, Alex (Sonia) Wearn, Caroline (Quin) Cogdell and Philip (Emily Berke) Wearn; nine great-grandchildren: Austin and Albrie Martin, Elam and Jorun Martin, Ella and Luke Martin, Charlotte and Conrad Wearn, Virginia Cogdell, with two baby girls on the way; as well as one great-great grandson, due in November; two sisters, Shelby Parks and Carol Kuehl; and one brother, Dwayne Lenker.
Dori was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; an infant son, Alan Dale Martin; a daughter in-law, Sigrun “Sigi” Martin; three sisters, Dorothy Plett, Millie Gregory and Ruby Lenker; and two brothers-in-law, Duane Parks and Les Kuehl.
