Matt Bowers: ‘I lead by example’

I wanted to take some time and describe my character to the readers, with three weeks until the primary election. First, I wanted make sure everyone understands why I have been talking about myself, about what I’ve done and the experience that I’ve gained in my career. It’s not because I’m bragging or arrogant, it’s because I’m trying to show my experience and career goals to you the people. This is like a job interview for me. I want everyone to know why I am qualified to be your next Cedar County Sheriff.

I am a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wilton, Cedar County Farm Bureau, Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Practical Farmers of Iowa, and the National Rifle Association.

I’ve learned a lot over the years, some things the hard way. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the years is the value of being there when people needed you, and the importance of helping neighbors. This is a daily goal in my career, making sure I am there when people depend on me, and I’ve strived to do everything with the betterment of the community and the department in mind. I lead by example, and with integrity. At home, helping each other is the definition of a good neighbor. I value talking with folks, and work to raise my children with values and respect towards others.

I believe in a service-oriented mindset, we should be doing everything we can for the betterment of the community. I believe in cooperation with our neighbor agencies and community leaders. I believe in doing what’s right even when no one is looking. I think fairness is the cornerstone of the relationship between citizens and those sworn to protect and serve them. Service. Cooperation. Integrity. Fairness. If elected your next sheriff, I know we can make a difference.

Matt Bowers, Wilton
