Bennett Legion sponsoring scholarships

The Bennett American Legion is sponsoring a minimum of three $500 scholarships. The applicant should be a senior from the Bennett School District, attending any high school who does not need to be related to a veteran; or may be a high school senior who is a direct descendant of a past or present member of the Bennett Legion or Auxiliary (i.e., child, grandchild, great-grandchild, etc.) regardless of high school district.

The applicant should possess the educational background to pursue any course of study at an educational institution that maintains a regular faculty and curriculum such as a college, university, nursing school, vocational or technical school, area community or junior college, business school, or cosmetology school.

Application information and forms have been sent to the high school guidance counselors at Tipton and Durant high schools, or are available by contacting Bennett Auxiliary scholarship chair — Jo Treadwell at 563-886-6224. (All applications can be processed on a computer using a Word document.)

Application forms are also available to apply for the state Department of Iowa American Legion Auxiliary scholarships, as well as 1st District Legion and Auxiliary scholarships. The Department Auxiliary offers approximately 12 scholarships with the completion of one application form. Applicants must be related to a veteran and attend an institution of higher learning in Iowa to be eligible for these scholarships.
