Atalissa Day canceled amid COVID-19

Initially scheduled to take place this Saturday, June 27, Atalissa Day will not happen this year, it was announced last week by Atalissa Fire Chief Ryan Pace.

The event typically raises money to aid the fire department and provides a unique community event for Atalissa.

“Following increased and overwhelming concerns about the COVID-19 virus, we felt this was the best way to proceed during such an unprecedented situation,” Pace said in a social media statement, saying the department is “extremely disappointed” with the situation.

“We know it is the right decision based on the information we have today,” Pace said, noting the community needs to understand the steps being taken to keep the community safe.

He said the department is hoping to still get monetary donations earmarked for replacing an aging tanker/pumper apparatus. He said the department is also exploring an option to conduct an online option to raise money thanks to donated items from businesses and individuals. He said updates can be found at atalissafire.org.
