In September, Patrick Slessor, pastor at Grace United Church of Christ in Wilton, and his son Lachlan read information about the Wilton Public Library's reading garden, which is planted with native Iowa plants, and is intended to attract butterflies and other pollinators. After opening in the summer when construction was complete on the roughly $278,000 project, several paths and signs have been added, taking visitors on informational journeys while they visit and interact with the space. Several summer and fall programs were held in the new outdoor attraction, with more to come next year.

The Durant School District is moving ahead with plans to demolish the house (pictured above) it owns at 310 Seventh Street in Durant. The home sits on a piece of property directly south of the high school parking lot. Demolition bids will be reviewed at the upcoming Dec. 13 school board meeting.
