DES MOINES — State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald announced the opening of the 2020 Robert D. Blue Scholarship at rdblue.org as an outlet for students to fund their higher education goals. Graduates of any Iowa high school who plan to attend a college or university in the state of Iowa for the 2020-2021 school year are eligible to apply.

Awards are based on financial need, an original essay, academic achievement and written recommendations. “I enjoy being a member of the foundation because I get a first-hand look at the potential of Iowa’s students,” Fitzgerald stated. “The individuals who receive these awards are doing great work in their communities and will continue to do so in their future endeavors.”

Established by the Iowa Centennial Memorial Foundation, the Robert D. Blue Scholarship is awarded to an Iowan who will be attending one of Iowa’s exemplary institutions of higher education. Since its creation in 1949 by Governor Robert D. Blue, the scholarship has helped hundreds of Iowa students fulfill their higher education dreams.

Last year, eight students were awarded a $1,000 scholarship. All recipients went to various colleges and universities across the state.

Robert D. Blue Scholarship applications are only accepted online through May 10 at rdblue.org. The winners will be announced during the summer. Those who would like more information on the Robert D. Blue Scholarship should visit the website or call the treasurer’s office at (515) 281-7003.
