In 1948, 29 students graduated from Durant High School. Four former students held a 70-year class reunion at the Wilton Retirement Community on Wednesday, May 16. Shown standing (from left) are Lois (Martens) Wirth and Dorothy (Wegener) Gibson; seated are Robert Schlapkohl and Alvin “Al” Korthaus. The class members held a luncheon and invited the spouses of other late class members. Other members of the class of 1948 who were unable to attend the reunion include Frances Paul of Durant, Elaine Martz of Branson, Missouri and Marilyn (McKillip) Barker of Council Bluffs.

DuPont Pioneer recently awarded Wilton High School with a $4,800 grant to support their local CASE initiatives. CASE is the Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education in the schools. Since 2013 DuPont Pioneer has been providing grants to schools across the country to provide Agriscience educators with training and classrooms resources to implement CASE in their schools to better prepare students for future careers in agriculture and science. On Wednesday, May 16, family and friends watched 16 children receive their diploma from Wilton’s Zion Lutheran preschool. The children sang their favorite songs, walked to pomp and circumstance, and celebrated with a reception afterward. The Durant football cheerleaders, under the direction of Cheryl Prohaska, raised funds during a "Cheer for the Cure" night at a Durant home football game last fall. The Durant cheer squad has been holding annual fundraisers for the Susan G. Komen Foundation Quad Cities chapter. A check for $5,000 was donated to Susan G. Komen earlier this year, bringing the grand total to $25,000 donated from Durant High School. The Wilton Music Department presented their spring concert on Thursday, May 10 in the high school gymnasium. The concert featured the fifth and sixth grade bands and the junior high choir and band.
