Robert and Karen Voelkel of Eldridge are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. The former Karen Reinier and Robert Voelkel were married July 10, 1960, at the United Methodist Church in Richland, Iowa.
Robert was a mathematics instructor at North Scott High School from 1965-1996. Karen was a substitute teacher at North Scott for many years, and taught family and consumer science from 1997-2004 at Central Community High School in DeWitt.
They are the parents of Kristen (Guillermo) Saenz of Mexico, Mo., Jana (Steve) Kovacic of East Moline, Scott (Donna) Voelkel of Burke, Va., and Lynn (Nate) Smith of Delmar. They have 16 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
They will celebrate at home with a romantic, intimate dinner for two.
