Scott County planning leaders will hear public comments and discuss a new ordinance regulating solar panels on farmland, 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 2, at the Scott County Administrative Center, 600 W. Fourth St., Davenport.
Planning and Zoning commissioners have drafted provisions that would limit utility-scale solar panels from the county’s highest producing, private farmland.
The ordinance is aimed at restricting large-scale solar panel farms, like those authorized by Clinton County Supervisors last month near Grand Mound.
Last year, Alliant Energy approach the county about building a solar panel farm just west of Davenport city limits. But Scott County code did not permit commercial-scale power generation on land zoned for farming.
The ordinance would not restrict solar panels for farm or residential use.
