Posted

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Randall Roland Burmeister, who departed this life in the comfort of his own home on January 1, 2025, at the age of 75. Graveside services will be held in honor of Randy's life at Inland Cemetery on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, at 1 p.m., (weather permitting), followed by memory sharing and a luncheon at the American Legion in Bennett.

Randy, the son of Norene (Schlapkohl) Burmeister and Lyle Burmeister, was born on September 9, 1949, in Davenport, Iowa.  After graduating from Bennett High School in 1967, Randy proudly served in the United States Navy.  He enlisted on November 30, 1967, and received an honorable discharge on November 19, 1971. He held the rank of Aviation Electrician Third Class (AE3).

Following his time in the Navy, Randy established a commendable career as an Industrial Engineer. He devoted many years of service to and retired from both Caterpillar and Proctor & Gamble. His commitment to excellence was evident throughout his professional journey.

Randy married the love of his life, Donna (England) Burmeister May 31, 1975, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Olin, Iowa.  Together they raised two children, Kari and Wade. Randy attended and was a confirmed member of Hope Lutheran Church, Dixon, IA.

Randy loved gardening, bee-keeping, storytelling and hunting. The outdoors is where he felt closest to God, often referring to it as "God's Cathedral." He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and was a good friend and neighbor. Randy's legacy is one of love, kindness, and positivity.

Randy leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted spouse, Donna Burmeister; his daughter, Kari (Gregg) Elsberry and his son, Wade Burmeister, his adored grandchildren—Lauren White, Jared White, and Isabella Salinas. He is also survived by his siblings: Luanne (Dr. Kim) Huckstadt, Linda (Matt) Stiles, Ken (Candy) Burmeister, Gary (Rita) Burmeister, Rick (Lydia) Burmeister and step-brother, Tim Boyle, his mother-in-law, Grace "Tuddy" England and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Randy was preceded in death by: his mother Norene Boyle, step-father, Neil J. Boyle, father, Lyle Burmeister, step-mother Barbara Burmeister, nephew, Travis Burmeister, father-in-law John England, and step siblings, Tom Boyle, Nancy Macy, Peggy Whitworth and Jane Fields.

Randy will be remembered for his unwavering positive spirit, industrious work ethic, and, most importantly, his profound love for family and friends. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Genesis Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, the University of Iowa's Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center or Iowa State University's Chemical Research Against Herbicides in memory of Randy.  Online condolences may be shared at www.fryfuneralhome.com
