Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.  Memorials may be made to American Legion, Post 639, Eldridge.

Bill died Thursday, April 14, 2022, at the Kahl Home, Davenport.  He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

Bill was born Aug. 6, 1935, in rural Scott County, a son of Anthony and Lillian (Wriedt) Saladino. Bill attended Walcott and Eldridge schools until eighth grade, when he quit to help on the family farm. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1955-1957. Bill was united in marriage to Geraldine Stoltenberg on Oct. 4, 1958. They shared 46 years of marriage together until Geraldine passed on Sept. 11, 2005.

Bill worked for Caterpillar for 19½ years until the plant closed, then worked part-time for the City of Eldridge until retirement, but his love has always been farming – he has helped several area farmers over the years as well as driving a semi-truck.  He had a tremendous work ethic, working two jobs and farming on the side for many years.

He was a life member of the Moose and member of the Eldridge American Legion.

Bill could talk to anybody, he enjoyed wintering in Texas and was a great fan of the rodeo and polka music. He enjoyed the outdoors, whether fishing, camping, boating, target shooting with his grandsons, farm shows, or sitting on his front porch watching and waving as friends went by and then stopping to visit. He loved his grandchildren and watching their activities as they got older.

Survivors include his children: Shelie (Dennis) Kirby, Davenport, Tony (Angela) Saladino, Long Grove, and Patty (Paul) Seyller, Geneseo, Ill.; grandchildren: Molly (Tim) Bucklaw, Bettendorf, Lisa (Reese) Saunders, Davenport, Dana (Jay) Burmeister, Bettendorf, Kyle (Margie) Kirby, Davenport, Emily (Taylor) Otto, Durant, Abby (Mitch Driscoll) Saladino, Eldridge, Hailey (Logan Timm) Saladino, Davenport, Kayla (Kyle) McKee, Geneseo, Luke Seyller, Mitchell (Breianna) Braack, Eldridge, and Chase Braack, Davenport; great-grandchildren: Alex, Adam, Emery, Keidryn, Quinten, Aliyah, Malika, Anna, Henry, Imogen, Sloan, Olivai, Kohen, Noah, Faith, Locklyn, Easton, Brantlee, and Mia; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jacob Braack, his parents and siblings, Francis Saladino and Anna Dudgeon.  May they rest in peace.
