Obituary: Wallace Miller

Wallace L. “Wally” Miller, 93, of Davenport, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 23 (today), from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Runge Mortuary, Davenport. A Masonic Service will begin at 12 p.m., with Funeral Services to follow at the mortuary. He will be laid to rest in Durant Cemetery, Durant. Wally was born March 22, 1928, in New Liberty, to Lorenz “Ike” and Florence (Lamp) Miller.

He served proudly in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S Wilkes Barre and the U.S.S. Randolph. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Arp May 1, 1949, in Davenport.

He drove trucks for Oscar Mayer and Murray’s Transfer for many years.

Wally was a member of the Davenport Masonic Lodge #37, Mohassen Grotto, where he was past Monarch, the Kaaba Shrine, Louisa Grotto, the Blue Lodge, and past president of the Midwest Grotto Association.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 72 years, Phyllis; his children, Bonnie (Randy) Meyer, New Liberty, Barry (Diana) Miller, East Moline, Beverly (Patrick) Ryan, Davenport, and Bradley (Pam) Miller, Calamus; 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 19 great, great grandchildren, with two on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Phyllis Ashcraft, and grandson, Thomas.
