Obituary: Vincent Kelly

Vincent D. Kelly, 74, of Bettendorf, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House after a battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer. Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Bettendorf, with visitation Wednesday, Oct. 14, 4-7 p.m., Runge Mortuary. He will be laid to rest in National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Special Olympics or Clarissa C. Cook. Online tributes may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.

Vince was born in Ogdensburg, New York, on Sept. 16, 1946, to Robert and Burnice (Dashnaw) Kelly. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and Clarkson University, receiving his B.S. in industrial management. He married Donna Saunders on June 18, 1966, in Prescott, Ontario, sharing over 54 years of marriage. Vince proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, receiving two Bronze Stars and the Imjin Scout Insignia. He worked in various positions at Alcoa (Arconic) in New York, Tennessee, and Iowa, retiring after 31 years.

Vincent had a caring spirit with a special heart. He volunteered for Special Olympics, coached his daughters in sports, and was a member of St. John Vianney church, where he attended daily mass and rosary recital. He was also part of St. John’s Men’s Fellowship, Midwest Corvette Club, Mississippi Bend Model Boaters, and VFW Post 9128. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed playing pool, euchre, and spending time with his poodle, Bailey.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; daughters, Robin (Brian) Porter and Kristi (Scott) Bullock; grandchildren: Natasha (Joseph) LeBlanc, Elijah Porter, Danica Porter, Logan Bullock, Chase Porter, Chloe Bullock, Carly Porter, Austin Bullock, Grant Porter, and Paxton Porter.

Vince was preceded in death by his parents, and cousin, Susie Skamperle.
