Obituary: Steven White

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Steven M. White, 70, of Maysville, were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial was in the Maysville Cemetery.  A prayer service was held at 4 p.m. on Thursday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, with visitation following until 7 p.m.  There was additional visitation from 9-10 a.m. on Friday at the church.  Memorials may be made to the Oral Cancer Foundation or the Our Lady of Victory Foundation.

Mr. White passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport.

Steven Michael White was born March 7, 1951, in Grinnell, a son of Raymond and Antonia (nee Determan) White.  He was united in marriage to Helen Phinney on May 24, 1986, in Lexington, Ill.

Steve earned a bachelor in arts from the University of Northern Iowa and was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation as a construction project coordinator for over 43 years, retiring in 2017.

He was a family-oriented man and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. In his spare time, he liked to be outdoors, read, and watch the Chicago Bears and Cubs.

Survivors include his wife Helen; daughters Kathleen (Steve) Baumer, Onslow, Iowa, Stephanie (Zac) Brown, Allen, Mich., Chelsea (John Hermsen) White, Denver, Colo.; grandchildren Theodore, Louis, Raelynn, and one on the way; siblings Mary Ellen White, Grinnell, Ruth Ann Butler, Derwood, Md., Edward White, Ft. Myers, Fla., David White, Waterloo, Louis White, West Melbourne, Fla., Mark White, Des Moines, Luke White, Grinnell, Matthew White, Maysville; guard dog “Determan” aka “D-Man” and granddog “Sir Charles.”

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Clair, Willis, and John.
