Obituary: Steven Guthrie

Steven K. Guthrie, 66, of Long Grove, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2020, at his residence.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, at the Quality Inn & Suites, 6605 N. Brady St., Davenport. The family requests casual or Harley Davidson attire and that you write down a memory of Steve to share with family and friends.  Bikes are welcome!  Memorials may be directed in Steve’s honor to Hope Lodge, 750 Hawkins Dr., Iowa City, IA 52246. Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Steve was born on Oct. 28, 1953, in Newton, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Lois (Clark) Guthrie.  He was a graduate of Newton High School, Class of 1971.  On July 8, 1972, he was united in marriage to Peggy L. Stringer in Newton.  After moving to the Quad City area, Steve worked as a branch manager for John Deere Landscapes until his retirement in 2016.  He enjoyed keeping a pristine lawn and took pride in traveling and riding his Harley. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 47 years, Peggy Guthrie of Long Grove; sons, Shon (Amy) Guthrie of Clinton, Jason (Lyn) Guthrie of Davenport; three grandchildren, Michael and Airrika Guthrie, Sylvia Rauchenecker; sister, Sherry (Don) Lovett of Crossett, Ark.; brother, Stan (Mary) Guthrie of Clive, Iowa; sister-in-law, Jeannie Hughes of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sandy Collins.
