Obituary: Shirley Costello

Shirley M. Costello, 72, a resident of Eldridge, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, at Genesis Medical Center, East Rusholme, in Davenport.

Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Long Grove. Burial will be at St. Ann’s Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at St. Ann’s. An additional visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Ann’s Church, Handicapped Development Center, or to the family. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Shirley was born Jan. 21, 1950, in Clinton, the daughter of William and Alice Mae (Anderson) Wiese. She married Matthew Costello June 24, 1967, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Long Grove.

Shirley loved cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their various events. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, and bar hopping and socializing with her great friends.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Matt; children, Yvonne (Phil) Van Blaricom of Eldridge, and Brian (Lisa) Costello of Park View; grandchildren, Hunter (Kayla), Dillon, Lauren Van Blaricom, Chelsea (Christian) LaCarte, and Tyler Costello; great-grandchildren, Kamryn, Lainey, Kai, Sage, and a baby boy due in September; siblings, Carol (Kenny) Keckler and Bill Wiese; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita (Dave) Smith, Sharon (Ted) Spainhower, and Joe (Deborah) Costello; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Russel Wiese and Janet Dinter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Claire Wiese, Don Noll, Mary and Bill Bennett, Pat and Arlen Kroeger, Frank and Elma Costello, and John R. Costello.
