Obituary: Roger Bourn

Roger A. “Rod” Bourn, Sr., 76, of Princeton, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Visitation was held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services on Monday at the funeral home.  Face masks were required and social distancing was observed.  Burial followed at Oakridge Cemetery in Princeton.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Rod was born Jan. 21, 1944, in Davenport, the son of Claude and Lucy Virginia (Hatton) Bourn.  He was united in marriage to Jeanne M. DeBarr on Nov. 24, 1962, in Davenport.  She preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 1997.

Roger was retired from the Army Corps of Engineers as a lockman with Lock and Dam 14.  He had also owned and operated a janitorial business for over 15 years.

He was an avid fisherman and boater, spending many hours on the Mississippi.  He had enjoyed motorcycling, storytelling and country and western movies.  Rod loved the company of his dogs and especially loved the time spent with his family and grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughters and sons-in-law, Mickey and Brian Moore of Fargo, N.D., and Sherri and Steve Huettman of Princeton; his sons and daughter-in-law, Ken and Dana Bourn of North Carolina and Roger Bourn Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; his foster son, Ron Hanson of Davenport; his grandchildren, Ashley (Zeke) Elder, Megan (Vince) Fischer, Chad (Marissa) Huettman, Jeremiah Moore and Malachi Moore; his great-grandsons, Zayden Elder, Camden Huettman and Corey Fischer; his sister and brother-in-law, Lucene and Mark Mitchell of Davenport; and his brother-and sister-in-law, Rick and Robin Bourn of Greenwood, Ind.

In addition to his wife, Jeanne, Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter-in-law, Margie Bourn; and a special friend, Peg Rochau.  Rod will also be fondly remembered by Peg’s daughters, Shelby Rochau and Amanda Frett, and Shelby’s sons, Hayden and Gavin Clemons.
