Obituary: Richard Lee

Richard (Dick) Lee passed away peacefully at the VA Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., on March 16, 2022. 

Dick was born in a farmhouse by Low Moor, Iowa, to Raymond and Thelma Lee on Nov. 9, 1931. He graduated from DeWitt High School in 1950. 

He was drafted into the Army in 1951.  During the Korean War, he received the Army commedation Medal, UN Korea Medal and Korean Service Medal.  He served his country for two years before being honorably discharged in 1953. 

He was married to Dorothy Erpelding on April 29, 1956, in a double wedding with her twin sister. 

He lived and worked on the Dean Wilkersen farm until 1962, when he took a position managing the McB Egg Farm in Long Grove, where Dick and Dorothy raised two sons, Jon and Jim.  In 1982, he managed the Rustic Ridge Golf Course in Eldridge. Then he was a chef at numerous restaurants in the Quad Cities before retiring and moving to Georgia in 2008 to be with family.   

Dick had a contagious smile and was a kind and generous person that will be missed by all that knew him.  He enjoyed being with family, going to casinos, playing cards and taking trips back to Iowa. 

His surviving family members include his son Jim and his wife Sabrina Lee; granddaughters Carol Browing (Zack) and Taylor Griffith, great-grandchildren Riley Browning and Scotty Griffith;  niece Cheryl Kofron (Bill), great-niece Bobbi Caskey, great-great-niece and nephew Kelly Caskey and Jordan Caskey, and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, and son Jon.
