Obituary: Rebecca Rupe

Rebecca L. Rupe, 66, of Eldridge, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, at her home.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 12 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Eldridge.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department.

Rebecca was born March 4, 1955, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Leo and Glenys (Judd) McElroy.  She was united in marriage to Donald R. Rupe on Aug. 3, 1974, in Ottumwa.

Becky was a Registered Nurse, proudly working for Dr. Walid Al-Sheikha’s office for 20 years, retiring in 2018.  She had enjoyed camping with her family at Lake Rathbun and especially adored her grandchildren.  

Her family’s biggest fan, she faithfully supported their sports, dance recitals, birthdays, graduations, weddings and baby showers over the years.  Becky will be remembered as a strong woman, with always a kind word to say.

Those left to honor Becky’s memory include her husband, Don; her daughter, Amy Clayton (James Porter) of Davenport; her son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Elisabeth Rupe of Long Grove; her grandchildren, Jayden and Tayja Clayton and Jacob and Kayla Rupe; her sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Steve Rogers of Norwalk; her brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Lisa McElroy of Ottumwa; five nieces; and seven great-nieces and nephews.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents.
