Obituary: Michael Busch

Michael P. Busch, 73, of Long Grove, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 8, 2020, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.

Michael Patrick Busch was born Nov. 11, 1946, in Davenport to Leonard and Sylvia (Koos) Busch.  He was a 1964 graduate of North Scott High School, Eldridge.  Mike served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged due to a medical condition.  He married Marlys Drumm June 21, 1969, at the United Methodist Church, McCausland.  Early in his working life, he was employed by RKO Theater, Turnstyle and V.J. Neu Oldsmobile.  Mike was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for over 20 years until retirement in 2003.   

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, McCausland.  Mike enjoyed training dogs, coaching women’s softball, bowling, fishing and traveling.  He loved spending time with his granddaughters and family as well as home improvement projects.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Marlys; his children, Danielle (Christopher) Whitcanack of McCausland and Jeremy Busch of Long Grove; his granddaughters, Isabelle Whitcanack and Zoey Whitcanack; his sister, Marjorie Nibblin of Florida and his brother, Larry, Sr. (Peggy) Busch of Davenport; nieces and nephews.

The family received relatives and friends at the United Methodist Church, McCausland, from 9 until 10:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11.  A service was held at 11 a.m. Friday in the church with Pastor Courtney Dake officiating.  Burial and military rites were at McCausland Cemetery.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials are suggested to McCausland United Methodist Church or McCausland Fire Department.
