Obituary: Marilyn Furman

Marilyn Joan Furman, 86, of Winterset, formerly of Bradford, Iowa, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, at the West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation Center, Winterset. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A private graveside service will be held in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Geneva, Iowa, at a later date.

Marilyn Meyer was born Oct. 21, 1933, in Iowa Falls, the daughter of Fred and Mollie (Gnade) Meyer. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1951.

She married Dean Furman on July 4, 1953. He preceded her in death.

She worked for the North Scott Schools for many years as the food service director.

Her hobbies were playing cards, camping, and watching sports.

Survivors include her children, Deanna (Rod) Schorpp, Flanagan, Ill., Donna (John) Coulter, Earlham, Iowa, and Steve Furman, Davenport; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Annabel Meyer, Iowa Falls.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Broerman; her sisters, Freda Winter, Arlene Smit, Maxine Barton, Dorothy Bach, Mildred Poland, Wilma Wulke, and Irene Meyer; and her brothers, Henry Meyer, Leonard Meyer, and an infant brother.
