Obituary: Marilyn Erling

Marilyn Joyce Erling, 90, formerly of Princeton, passed away peacefully at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Services to celebrate her life were held Friday, July 12, at 10 a.m. at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation was one hour prior to her service, at the mortuary. Her final resting place was in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may go to Empowering Abilities (HDC) or Clarissa C. Marilyn was born in Davenport on Sept. 29, 1933.  She was the daughter of George and Anna V. (Rhoades) Beuse.  She married the love of her life, August “Augie” Erling on Nov. 18, 1953, in Princeton.  He passed away on Oct. 17, 2014.

She worked as a clerk and bookkeeper for the Edmund H. Carroll law firm and worked as a tax accountant as well. She volunteered for many years at the Genesis East Hospital’s gift shop. The couple lived along the Mississippi for 51 years. They also enjoyed their cabin on Woman Lake in Minnesota.  She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge of LeClaire. She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and poker with her high school friends and at Garner Farms.

Those left to honor her memory include her “adopted son,” Bill (Debra) Brownson, Bettendorf; nieces and nephews:  Dana (Lori) Biles, Eldridge, Jon (Teresa) Biles, Princeton, and Joan (Gerald) Kundert, LeClaire.

Along with her parents and husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Biles; great-nephew Jerold Kundert; and stepfather, Don Schmidt.
