Obituary: Marian Behrens

Marian L. Behrens, 84, formerly of Eldridge, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Luther Oaks in Bloomington, Ill. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12 (today), at Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge.  Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge.  Face masks will be required and social distancing will be observed.  Burial will be in Mount Joy Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or to Camp Courageous.

Marian was born Jan. 7, 1937, in rural Wadena, Iowa, the daughter of Cecil and Lucile (Gordon) Kelly.  She was united in marriage to Lorenz F. Behrens on Sept. 7, 1957, in Randalia, Iowa.

Marian was an active member at Faith Lutheran Church, serving as church secretary for 7½ years.  She enjoyed volunteering over the years with the North Scott Food Pantry and sewing and quilting for various veterans’ groups, Head Start and the Pioneer Village of Scott County.

Marian was also an avid reader.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Lorenz; her son and daughter-in-law, Martin Behrens and Susan Bassie of Normal, Ill., her daughter-in-law, Bobbie Behrens of Long Grove; her grandchildren, Tobias (Stephanie) Behrens, Amanda (Rick) Dryoel and Nathen (Jaime) Noel; her great-grandchildren, Zac, Ethan, Faith, Caden, and Annika; her sisters, Virginia Mitchell of Arlington, Iowa, and Judy (Robert) Rothlisberger of West Union, Iowa; her brother Gordon (Verla) Kelly of Maynard, Iowa; and her sisters-in-law Ursula Cordes, Marlys Schoephoerster and Jo Behrens.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents; her son Terry Behrens; her twin sister, Marbeth Kelly; her, brother Keith Kelly; and many other cherished family members.
