Obituary: Joyce Van Den Berghe

Joyce L. Van Den Berghe, age 70, of Stockton, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021, at Methodist Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. A private family funeral service will be held and burial will take place in Durant Cemetery, Durant.  A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 5-8 p.m., Saturday, May 1, at the New Liberty Fire Department.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Liberty Volunteer Fire Department or the Mayo Clinic in her memory. Joyce was born on Jan. 14, 1951, the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Engler) Huesmann.  She graduated from Durant High School with the Class of 1970.  Joyce married Eugene C. Van Den Berghe on June 23, 1972, in Davenport.  He preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 2006.

Joyce farmed alongside her husband, Gene, on the family farm.  She also worked at CDS Global in Tipton before retiring.  She was a first responder with the New Liberty Volunteer Fire Department for many years.  Joyce was an avid quilter and donated her quilts to be auctioned off at the annual New Liberty Fire Department steak fry.  Most of all, Joyce loved spending time with her family.

Joyce is survived and lovingly remembered by her children; Lynn (Ed) Ketelsen of Stanwood, Steven (Heidi Tonn) Van Den Berghe of Stockton, and Curtis (Holly) Van Den Berghe of Stockton; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother Randy (Mary Kay) Huesmann of Stockton; and one sister Sandy Huesmann of Durant.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Eugene.
