Obituary: Jeraldine Danielsen

Jeraldine “Jerry” Danielsen, 97, of Dixon, passed away on Monday morning, Jan. 25, 2021, at UnityPoint Health in Marshalltown. 

Services for Jerry were held on Monday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Dixon. A visitation took place beginning at 10 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Jerry’s name to Hope Lutheran Church, the Dixon Cemetery, or to Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown.  For additional questions or to leave a condolence, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234. Born June 24, 1923, in Davenport, Jeraldine was the daughter of Herbert and Marie (Tetzner) Wiese. She graduated from Davenport Central High School in 1940. Jerry went on to study “Girl Friday” courses at A.I.B. School of Business and worked as a secretary for a time. 

After meeting the love of her life, Theodor “Ted” Danielsen, they were united in marriage on April 19, 1947, at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dixon. Together they worked hard as dairy farmers and raised their two daughters. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before his passing in 2005.

Jerry was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church and actively participated in several women’s groups. After retirement, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and loved bowling and pitching horseshoes. Jerry also enjoyed spending time with her family and playing cards. She attended Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown after moving in with her daughter.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Carol Roush of Marshalltown and Jean (Bob) Ash of Atlanta, Ga.; her grandsons: Greg Roush, Chris (Jessica) Roush, Todd (Monique) Roush, and Mark (Michaela) Roush; and her 16 great-grandchildren. 

Jerry is preceded in death by her husband, Ted; her parents: Herbert and Marie; son-in-law, Allan Roush; two brothers: Fred and Lorane Wiese; and her sister, Rose Marie Spies.
