Obituary: James Tank

James “Jim” Tank of Davenport, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2021, at Genesis East Medical Center. A private family service will be held at Weerts Funeral Home, which can be viewed online via livestream at www.facebook.com/WeertsFuneral starting at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A Celebration of Life tailgate will be held in the fall. Memorials may be left to the North Scott Educational Foundation or the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Iowa City. Online condolences may be expressed at www.weertsfh.com.

Jim was born May 23, 1938, to Robert and Velma (Jebens) Tank in Davenport. Jim graduated from Davenport High School in 1956. He continued his education at the University of Iowa, earning his bachelor of science degree. Jim was united in marriage to Linda Sebolt on Aug. 4, 1984, in Davenport, bringing together a blended family of five children: Amy, Becky, Tom, Beth and Tony. Jim was the president of the former Central Trust and Savings Bank in Eldridge. He later took a position with Northwestern Mutual as an agent. He retired in 2017.

Jim was a member of several boards and organizations in the Quad Cities area including: North Scott Educational Foundation, North Scott School Board, Eldridge Lions Club, North Scott Rotary, Davenport Quarterback Club, Marycrest College, and Good Samaritan.

Jim was an avid runner, running at least 25 Bix 7 races. To say he was an avid Hawkeye fan is an understatement. Fall was reserved for Iowa Hawkeye football. Jim was very patriotic and proud to be an American. He loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his loving wife, Linda, children: Amy (Scott) Smith, Becky (John) Lafrenz, Tom (Jennifer) Tank, Beth (Steve Fuglestad) Tank, and Tony (Darcey) Sebolt; grandchildren: Samuel Smith, Luke (Mara) Smith, Alexandra (Dathan) Speer, Nicholas Lafrenz, Joseph Lafrenz, Sara Tank, Brady Sebolt, Olivia Sebolt, and William Sebolt; great grandson, Weston Speer; and a sister, Lorna Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Kenneth Tank.
