Hope “Deborah” Lauthen, 64, of Iowa City, passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 9, from noon to 1 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City. Services will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Social distancing guidelines are in place and masks are required – thank you for your compliance. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Deb’s name. For those unable to attend, the service for Deb will be available on Zoom. Deb was born April 29, 1956, in Dayton, Ohio, the daughter of Thomas E. and Betty L. (Hook) Lentz. She graduated from Edgewood High School. She married John F. Lauthen on Aug. 31, 1974, in Edgewood, Iowa.
Deb and John had two sons, Brian and Shane Lauthen. Deb’s sons were the light of her life. She never missed an event to support them. From attending band concerts to many football games and track meets. She was so proud of them.
Deb worked throughout her life in the service industry. She was a long-time employee at the Waterfront Hy-Vee in Iowa City. Deb was quiet natured but was known for her friendliness. She always said “hello” to those she passed by.
She had a love of music. In her younger years, she often attended local concert venues. Along with music, she loved local fairs and events. A family tradition was attending the Minnesota State Fair each year and enjoying the food, fun, people, and music. She continued the tradition by going to the Minnesota State Fair with her grandchildren each year. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons, Brian Lauthen of Champaign, Ill., and Shane Lauthen (Sara) and their children, Mya, Aria and Nolan, all of Cottage Grove, Minn.; her mother, Betty Lentz of Iowa City; sister, Faith “Becky” King (Terry) of Ainsworth, Iowa; and brother David Lentz (Linda) of Omaha, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas, and her husband, John.
