Harvey Alan Thaler, of Davenport, passed away Jan. 16, at Crest Health Center, of Lewy Body Dementia with Parkinson’s. Per his wishes, there will be no services. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island, with military honors. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.Harvey was born on Feb. 26, 1943, to Sidney and Molly Thaler in St. Louis, Mo. He proudly served six years in the United States Naval Submarine Service. He met the love of his life, Wendy Kraft, in 1979 and they shared 42 years of adventures together. He was welcomed into Wendy’s family as one of their own and he referred to family get-togethers as an “Arps and Krafts Show.”

In his earlier years, Harvey enjoyed skydiving and flying planes. He had a quest for learning and he loved reading anything with science and math, his favorite subject being quantum physics. He and Wendy loved to travel, especially to the southwest United States and to Europe. Though a self-professed “dog-person,” he managed to fall in love with every feline that ever came to reside with him.

Harvey is survived by his special companion, Wendy; his childhood buddies, Alan Schneider and Don Markowitz, aka “The Enright Gang”; and his dear friend, John Petrick.

Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society or the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity, 555 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10022.

Wendy would like to extend a very special thank you to all the staff at Crest Health Center for their loving care and dedication to Harvey over the last three years.
