Obituary: Harlan Meyer

Mr. Harlan K. Meyer, 92, of DeWitt, died Thursday afternoon, July 15, 2021, at home.

Harlan Kenneth Meyer was born Aug. 14, 1928, on the Meyer family farm on Buttermilk Road in northwest Davenport.  He was a 1947 graduate of Davenport Central High School.  On Jan. 15, 1955, Harlan married Gertrude Elizabeth Walker at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt.  The couple farmed for 46 years in Scott and Clinton counties, where they raised their three children.  Gertrude preceded Harlan in death Dec. 30, 2016.  

He was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt.  In 1979, Harlan was inducted into the Pioneer Hybrid Soybean Seed Company Hall of Fame at Waterloo.  That year Harlan had the top soybean yield in the state of Iowa.  He was a longtime John Deere enthusiast.  Harlan enjoyed animals, especially dogs and horses over the years.  Above all he was a devoted husband and father.

Surviving are children, Ross of DeWitt, Sue of Norman, Okla., and Jodi of DeWitt; a brother, Wayne, and sister, Barb, both of Eldridge.

The family received friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, July 23.  A private family service and burial was held at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
