Obituary: Eldon Peters

Eldon H. Peters, 84, of Eldridge, died Nov. 30, 2019, at home. Funeral services will be 12 noon, Saturday, Dec. 7, at Weerts Funeral Home, 3625 Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service. Per Eldon’s request, casual attire is preferred. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport. Eldon was born May 16, 1935, to Edwin and Emma (Stoltenberg) Peters in Scott County. He married Marietta Holtz on Oct. 8, 1960. Eldon grew up on a family farm near Eldridge. He proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict, serving in Japan and Washington, D.C. He attended Carpenter/Millwright Apprentice School. He was employed as a carpenter for Union Local #4. He also worked at International Harvester as a millwright, retiring in 1995. Eldon worked part time in the small engine repair department at True Value Hardware Store in Eldridge.

Eldon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a life member of NRA and Oak Hill Gun Club, where he taught hunter safety classes. Eldon also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and animals of all kinds, but he especially enjoyed time with family, friends and his pets.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife; son, Mark Peters; sisters, Evelyn (Earl) Gullion, Emmylou (Bruce) Dexter and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elaine and her husband Reynold Muhs; sister, Eunice and her husband, Bill Johnson.
