Dorothy E. Marten, 96, of Eldridge, formerly of rural Donahue, died on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at Grand Haven in Eldridge. Funeral services celebrating her life were at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, at Weerts Funeral Home. Visitation was held from 12 p.m. until time of service. Burial followed at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Estate of Dorothy Marten.
Dorothy was born on Sept. 11, 1928, in Clinton County, the daughter of John and Hilda (Wieck) Fischer. She married Elmer Marten on Dec. 7, 1946, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Dorothy and Elmer farmed in Scott County until Elmer’s death in 1985. They enjoyed ballroom dancing and traveling during their 39 years of marriage. Dorothy was a previous member of the Davenport Elks, Ladies of the Moose Club and Plus 60 Club.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Karen (John) Moran of Maple Valley, Wash.; Connie Johnson, Missouri City, Texas; David (Donna) Marten, Asotin, Wash.; Debbie (Richard) Graczkowski, Holly Springs, N.C.; Christie (Matt) Liske of rural Donahue; Penny (Doug) Guenther of Bettendorf; Peggy Russo of Eldridge; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmer, daughter, Sharon, infant grandson, Adam Keller, son-in-law, Robert, four sisters and two brothers.
