Obituary: Donna Pence

Donna Jean (Ferguson) Pence of Bettendorf, passed away at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, surrounded by the love of her family June 19, 2022. Per her wishes cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services, her ashes to be spread at a later date by family.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Clarissa Cook Hospice House in honor of Donna. Donna Jean Ferguson was born on June 5, 1931 in Rock Island, to Bernard “Bernie” Ferguson and Jeanette Margaret (Paridon) Ferguson. Donna married Cecil Earl Pence on Sept. 9, 1949, in Rock Island. They made their first home in Davenport. Both Cecil and Donna worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Donna as a telephone operator.

Donna loved the outdoors, books, animals, and her family. Cecil and Donna enjoyed traveling, exploring and camping throughout their lives. Donna even spent time living in far off places like Saudi Arabia and Guam because of Cecil’s work. She also lived for many years in various places in the U.S. including the Quad Cities, Udall, Mo., Albuquerque N.M., and other areas around the country as they travelled for Cecil’s work and as campground hosts. 

Those left to cherish Donna’s memory are Michael and Kay (Cronkleton) Pence of Eldridge, Teresa Jo (Pence) Talon of Davenport, Douglas and Linda (Hollman) Pence of Steelville Mo., Amy Pence of Davenport, and all of Donna’s beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Cecil on June 9, 2010, and her grandson, Nathan J. Pence on Nov. 15, 2006.
