Obituary: Darold Busch

Darold L. Busch, 81, of Donahue, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at his residence.

A memorial service was held at 12 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge.  Visitation was from 10 a.m. until service time.  Inurnment was at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Long Grove.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Donahue Fire Department.

Darold was born Sept. 19, 1939, to John and Evelyn (Timm) Busch.  In 1958 he joined the U.S. Army.  He married Arlene Legan on Feb. 10, 1962, in Canon City, Colo.  In his earlier years, Darold worked as a cement truck driver, bus driver for North Scott School District, groundskeeper for Davenport School District, and volunteered for the Donahue Fire Department.  In the late 1980’s he served as city mayor of Donahue.  Prior to retirement in 1990, he worked at Alcoa as a crane operator, and later as fire inspector, for over 40 years.  Darold was a member of the Donahue American Legion - Post 532, AARP, Donahue Sportsman Club, and Alcoa Retirees Club.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene Busch, Donahue; children, Terry Busch, Donahue, Corinne (Patrick) Costello, Keenesburg, Colo., Rich Busch, Jewell, Iowa, Mike (Jane) Busch, Oskaloosa; sisters, Darlene (Delbert) Grosvenor, Clarksburg, Mo., Nancy (Jake) West, Blue Grass, Penny Erps, Davenport; brothers, Bob (Millie) Erps, Tipton, Phil (Melodie) Busch, Blue Grass; seven grandchildren, Luke Costello, Danielle (Anthony) Deneke, Shunyl Busch, Sylina Busch, Mackenzie Busch, Karlie Busch, Austin Busch; three great-grandchildren, Stella, Colt, and Lane Deneke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John (Mary) Busch and Evelyn (Walter) Erps, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eunice (Herb) Weaver; and his granddaughter, Courtney Costello.
