Obituary: Clyde Huston

A private family funeral service will be held in the Blue Grass Cemetery for Clyde M. Huston, 94, of Blue Grass. The service will be live-streamed on the Bentley Funeral Home Facebook page at 2 p.m. Friday, May 29.

Mr. Huston died Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at the Iowa Masonic Home, Bettendorf.

Clyde Huston was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Perrysburg, Ohio, the son of Glen and Julia (Nixon) Huston.

He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II, receiving a Purple Heart and Bronze Star while serving in Italy.

He married Willa Zuber on June 27, 1953, in Toledo, Ohio. She died March 21, 2015.

He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1980. In retirement, he worked at Idle Hour Lanes, co-owned Huston’s Car Wash, and worked at Banworth and Udelhoven Furniture World.

He served on the Blue Grass City Council, raised money for the new city hall, and was an honorary member of the Blue Grass Community Club. He and his wife started and organized the annual Homecoming parade for many years, and founded and published the Blue Grass Bugle newspaper. He was also a member of the Blue Grass American Legion Post #711, the Wilton Masonic Lodge, KAABA Shrine, two Blue Lodges, and the Mohasson Grotto.

Survivors include his sons, Geoffery (Joanne) Huston, Bettendorf, and Craig (Desi) Huston, Blue Grass; eight grandsons; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
