Funeral services celebrating the life of Arthur “Art” Van Hoosier, 95, of Davenport, and formerly of Park View, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 25, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will follow in Davenport Memorial Park with military honors. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
Mr. Van Hoosier passed away, surrounded by his family, on Friday, May 19, 2023, at Silvercrest, Davenport.
Arthur Martin Van Hoosier was born June 10, 1927, in Northwood, a son of Charles and Barbara (Popp) Van Hoosier Sr. After high school he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific.
He worked for Sears & Roebuck for 40 years starting with his position as manager of the Automotive Center. While working for Sears, he met Dorothy Hayes, and they were married in 1967.
Art enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling and dancing with his beautiful wife Dorothy. Art took up wood carving while he and Dorothy spent many winters in Texas during their retirement.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife Dorothy; sons Mark Van Hoosier, Davenport, Paul Van Hoosier, Davenport, Jay (Amy) VanHoosier, Eldridge, Scott (Babs) Van Hoosier, Story, Wyo., Neil (Joyce) Van Hoosier, Liberty, Mo., Brad (Lora) Hayes, Bettendorf; daughter Lori (Rick) Kruger, Ames; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; brothers Fred (Martha) Van Hoosier, Eldridge, Donald Van Hoosier, Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles Jr., and sister, Frances Wingerter.
