Obituary: Arliss Whisler

Arliss E. Whisler, 87, of Eldridge, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at the Runge Mortuary & Crematory, Davenport.  The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, at Faith Lutheran Church, Eldridge.  Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or the Eldridge Community Center.  Online condolences may be shared at www.rungemortuary.com.

Arliss was born Sept. 30, 1934, in Davenport to Elton and Verna (Baustian) Whisler.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57.  On Oct. 9, 1966, in Davenport, Arliss was united in marriage to his wife of 55 years, Florence Grim.  Arliss first worked on the family farm in Donahue.  He then moved to Eldridge and worked for Farm Services as a crop salesperson for 24 years prior to his retirement.  Arliss was very active in the community.  He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, former member of the KABBA Shrine, active in 4-H, served on the board for the Eldridge Community Center, and was the meal site director for CASI in Eldridge for 20 plus years.   

Survivors include his wife Florence, Eldridge; son Matthew Vo Whisler, San Diego, Calif.; sister-in-law Karen Luther, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Arliss was preceded in death by his parents.
