Obituary: Allen Schwerdtfeger

A private celebration of life service was held for Allen J. “Big Al” Schwerdtfeger, 78, of Bettendorf. The Runge Mortuary, Davenport, assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Schwerdtfeger died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, at Unity Point Trinity, Bettendorf.

Allen Schwerdtfeger was born May 5, 1941, in Bettendorf, the son of Harold and Margaret (Enderle) Schwerdtfeger. He graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1959.

He was formerly married to Eveanne Dawson.

He worked for the National T Grocery Store in several departments. He then went to work at Oscar Mayer for over 30 years. After retiring, he drove a bus for the city for 11 years.

He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf and was a member of the union at Oscar Mayer.

His hobbies were working on cars, traveling, watching sports, and spending time with friends.

Survivors include his children, Joni (William) King, Rock Island, John Schwerdtfeger, Tega Cay, S.C., and Jeffrey Schwerdtfeger, Moline; his grandchildren, Mike Knott, Joshua Schwerdtfeger, and Shailynn Parker; four great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Roger (Rosemary) and Harold (Shirley), all of Bettendorf, Peggy Sexton, Davenport, and Jim of California.

He was preceded in death by eight siblings.
