Rita F. Sterner, 80, of Moscow, Iowa, died Friday, March 5, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City. Cremation rites have been accorded, and no services are scheduled at this time. Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.
Rita was born on Jan. 6, 1941, the daughter of Herbert and Frances (Smith) Coss. She graduated from Wilton High School. Rita married Clare W. Sterner on Dec. 30, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wilton.
Rita was a homemaker, who cherished taking care of her family. After her children started school, Rita worked at Louis Rich in West Liberty for many years. She later worked for Wilton Community Schools. Rita treasured spending time with her grandchildren and her beloved parrot, Gus. She also enjoyed visiting and drinking coffee with her cousins, and having lunch with her sister, Janet.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Clare Sterner of Moscow; five children, Tim (Marsha) Sterner of Durant, Peg (Mark) Weih of Moscow, Ben (Tanya) Sterner of Moscow, Patty (Robert) Cornell of Washington Island, Wisconsin and Brett (Andrea Seligman and her children, Emily, Trace and Ty) Sterner of Moscow; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Nicole) Weih, Dan (Audra Bates) Sterner, Adam (Autum) Sterner, Ainslie Cornell and Aislinn Cornell; two great-grandchildren, Laiken Weih and Elizabeth “Ellie” Sterner; and four siblings, Janet Laucamp, Herbert “Herbie” (Laura) Coss, Raymond Coss and Beth (Donovan) Telsrow.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Hub and Fannie Coss; and her brother-in-law, Robert Laucamp.
