June 8, 1994: The National Weather Service announced its upcoming relocation from the Quad-City Airport in Moline to a facility near the Davenport Airport in Mt. Joy. The plan included an apparatus resembling a giant soccer ball atop a tower. It would provide the latest in Doppler radar technology and would be the centerpiece of the new facility.
